Pinhole & Holiday Detection Instruments
$100.00
Once the protective coating has been applied, it is important to ensure there are no defects or discontinuities that expose the substrate underneath. Small areas of thin or missing coating, called 'pinholes' or 'holidays', can become foci of corrosion and drastically reduce the service life of the protective coating system. Pinhole or vacation detectors are non-destructive instruments used to detect discontinuities in coating systems including holidays, pinholes, and cracks. Other names include porosity detector, continuity tester, vacation tester, splash tester, and jeep gauge.
DeFelsko offers two types of porosity/pinhole detectors: low voltage (wet sponge testers) and high voltage (spark testers). Low voltage detectors, such as the PosiTest LPD, are typically used on painting systems less than 500 µm (20 mil) thick. High voltage vacation testers, such as the PosiTest HHD operate at voltages up to 35,000 V and are typically used on coatings with a minimum thickness of 200 µm (8 mils).
